Finally, I managed to get my hand on a set of TEIN Super Street High/Low Soft/Hard Super Strut adjustable coilover kit with EDFC for my Celica. Before I go further, what are these Super Street, Super Strut and EDFC means?
Super Street: TEIN Super Street damper kit was designed for drivers seeking improved handling on the street and at the track. A shortened shell case is utilized to allow the most piston stroke possible, which allows for a better ride at lowered ride heights, and increased grip at the track. Great for daily driving and occasion track use, whether it be at the drag strip, local circuit, or autocross course. Includes both ride height and 16 levels of damping force adjustment to allow the driver to dial in the suspension for various road conditions.
Super Strut: The Super Strut Suspension System is based on existing strut-type suspension design, but boasts an innovative link configuration and newly designed camber control arm for finer wheel-alignment control. It reduced camber angle relative to ground and moment of inertia around steering axis. A Toyota version of Honda double wishbone. (though Honda double wishbone is far more superior)
EDFC: EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) makes it possible for the driver to adjust the damping force by controlling a motor installed on the shock absorber while being seated in the driver's seat. The driver can enjoy the variations in suspension settings fully and actively, according to various driving situations.
So what's so special with this TEIN adjustable coilover kit? First of all, TEIN is a pretty good brand from Japan. Secondly, the spring rate is good enough for daily use and the shocks are serviceable. Then, it is plug and play to my Super Strut Celica. A lot of after market manufacturers (eg: BC racing) do sell Super Strut adjustable coilover kit for Celica but they need you to cut the strut of your original shock and weld it to the adjustable coilover kit which is a no no to me. Lastly, with EDFC, you can adjust the damping force (soft/hard) with a click of a button.
From the pictures, you may already guessed that it is a set of used unit and I got it with a very reasonable price but I have yet to get it install to my Celica yet. Super Street is discontinued for years but TEIN is now offering custom made one which is equivalent to Super Street. For more you may refer to here and below is the specification of the coilover kit. Do bear in mind that the product code GSY22-B1SS4 is for Super Strut and GSY28-B1SS4 is for McPherson Strut.
Did a quick calculation. It cost RM8250 excluding shipping.
